Case Study: Perfect Game T-Shirts

Client: Seattle Mariners

THE CHALLENGE 

They say the odds of throwing a perfect game are 1 in 18,192. It’s only happened 21 times since the ‘modern’ baseball era began in 1900. It’s better than a shutout or a no hitter; it’s the ‘Royal Flush’ of baseball and our ‘King Felix’ Hernandez did it for the sporting world on August 15th, 2012. 

Nobody could have predicted or been prepared for this epic performance, and what came next was also daunting...a client asked for 43,000 gold tee shirts to be completed in just five days. Could another miracle happen? Could we find and print 43k units of the same Gold colored tee in time? 

THE SOLUTION 

Onto the phone, the web, and into email we went to check on stock, print speed and secure pricing. If this was going to work we would need at least FIVE automatic presses to work nonstop. Despite the timeline, we were diligent in our preparation for the monumental task at hand. After much effort, we finally procured all the elements needed to execute. Trucks of shirts arrived and nonstop printing commenced for five days on press. 

THE RESULTS 

Truck after truck of finished shirts departed for Safeco Field. We were on spec, on time and on budget! Exhausted but excited, we headed to the ballgame and walked in to a ‘Sea of Gold” fans and the song “Yellow” by Coldplay blaring over the sound system. Only then we realized the magnitude of what had just been accomplished; our own ‘Perfect Game’.
