IGNITE >> INSPIRE >> INVEST is the theme for the PPAI Women’s Leadership Conference, so it is pretty fitting that PromoShop’s Chief Operating Officer, Kate Alavez, is this year’s WLC Workgroup Chair! Although Kate’s impact and influence are a huge part of what makes our company great, she is quick to make it clear that she is one of MANY women in our industry who are inspiring action, innovation and opportunities nationwide (and beyond!). This week’s blog post gives you the inside scoop from Kate herself on what makes the WLC special and why EVERY woman in the promotional industry should put it on their calendar.

At the center of WLC’s magic is an incredible workgroup comprised of talented industry women. This workgroup meets once a week for almost a year to design the agenda. These women are committed to building a conference that will be a high-impact professional development experience with ample opportunities for networking and education. My involvement with WLC began a few years ago. I was asked to speak to the group about employee engagement and building hybrid teams. Immediately, I was struck by the power of the connections. I left feeling inspired. Just a few weeks later, I was approached about joining the workgroup. I knew I had to say YES and be part of this incredible team.
I’m fortunate again this year to have the great joy of operating alongside a group of industry superstars to assemble three days of content and networking. In addition to the work we do for the conference, I find the workgroup creates “stretch” opportunities that help me elevate my impact elsewhere. I have to extend my reach and think more creatively when working with this team as they inspire new thinking. We challenge each other to meet the needs of 150 industry peers in relevant ways that will resonate even after we are home from the event and back in our offices.
I think the thing that resonates with me most is the power of the community involved. After the close of a project, when everything else falls away, what becomes most poignant are the people and the things we’ve built as a team. The power of that dedication is evident with this extraordinary group of women – I am grateful to be a part of this community and look forward to sharing it in Eagan, MN this summer.
